Make-up Tips for all your Stunning Red Heads out there

Eye Shadows:

Again like any other skin tone or hair colour there is no set rule for all red heads when it comes to make-up application. It really depends on your skin tone and eye colour. Not all red heads have blue or green eyes and pale freckly skin. I know some red heads with dark brown eyes and dark eyelashes.

Making your eye colour pop is one of the most important things. This means that you choose a colour that is opposite to your eye colour on the Colour Wheel

  • If you have Blue eyes then choose colours like copper, peach, gold, brown, bronze, taupe.
  • If you have Green eyes choose plum, purple, mauve
  • If you have Brown Eyes choose Navy, Green, Plum, Blue, Grey
Redheads are always advised to stay away from Pinks and Lilacs as they can make your eyes look tired and
sore. Again it depends on the shade of pink and your eye colour etc...

Foundation:

With foundations a very pink based tone can enhance the redness in your skin so it is often better to choose a more neutral or yellow toned foundation. Again it depends on your skin tone.

Eyelashes:

Tinting your eyelashes can also make a huge difference to your appearance as most red heads have very fair eyelashes. Otherwise a brown mascara can be lovely on Red Heads, although I do know a lot of my friends love their black mascara and would not even entertain brown mascara, so it really depends on the individual.

Lips:

Neutral lip colours are stunning on red heads with or without lip glosses. A red lip can also be beautiful once you choose the correct shade of red. Again red heads are always advised to stay away from pink, but I have seen a fuschia pink lip look stunning on girls with red hair.

Dainty Doll Make-up launched by Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud is a make-up range specifically designed for pale skin. This range can be purchased online from ASOS, Boots online and Harrods of London.

Exclusive Interview with Rachel from Faces Cosmetics Ireland!!!

1. How is Faces Cosmetics different to other brands?
Faces products are unique due to the fact that we produce and manufacture our own products, enabling us to react quickly to market trends. The diversity & depth of our colour range appeals to all skin tones

2. Is Faces popular with a particular age group?
We really appeal to all ages as we have such a wide range of products, ranging from highly pigmented mineral eye shadows, popular with our younger clientele, to highly innovative anti-ageing foundations which are extemely popular with our mature clients. With something to suit everyone in between.

3. You seem to have a huge following among make-up artists and make-up students. Why do you think this is so?
Professionals within the Industry love the products, as they work simple as that! They get great natural coverage from our foundations, which are HD foundations, meaning they work well with cameras, so great for photo shoots and weddings etc... The eye shadows, blushers and lipsticks have loads of pigment so they get the desired effect straight away.
Also we have amazing kits and palettes that the professional/student customises themselves, therefore none of these kits where you end up with colours you don't want or have already - you get to choose exactly what you want. We do refillable palettes of foundation, powders, eye shadows, blushers, lipsticks, lip glosses and concealers, which help keep kits compact so its easily carried around.

4. What are your top 3 most popular products?
Oh that's a hard one.....
  • Mineral Perfection - an amazing mineral cream to powder foundation which instantly smoothes out lines. Both make-up artists and customers adore this!
  • Sheer Glow Mineral Powder - which is my personal favourite! Great coverage, feels like you have nothing on, SPF25 and water resistant, what more could I ask of my foundation
  • Eye Shadows - 125 colours to choose from, amazing pigment and staying power, available in a great range of palette options, all of them refillable

5. Do you wear much makeup yourself?
My make-up routine is the same on a night out as it is in work and on me, I rather the natural look. I focuse mainly on my eyes, some combination of matte brown colours, black eyleliner inside my rims and mascara, I like them dark but have a phobia about anything above the crease of my eye. Its become a joke with all the make-up artists who work for Faces. Then it is just my faithful Sheer Glow and perhaps a Coral lipstick. For night time if I am feeling adventurous add some blusher. I get to use my creativity on my very willing customers:-)

6. What made you decide to purchase the Faces Franchise?
I left Ireland to go travelling for 2 years, knowing that when I came home I would set up my own business in the Make-up Industry, but I didn't really know exactly what. Having your own make-up store is every little girl's dream, I am sure, but I never imagined that it would ever happen to me. Then on my travels I discovered Faces Cosmetics and fell in love with the products, which all agreed with my hyper-sensitive skin. When I came home I researched other brands but the quality never came close to what I had experienced wiht Faces.  Faces don't advertise a lot, they do it all very quietly, but for me quality always wins. I then set about gaining the Franchise for Ireland and things happened very quickly but with a lot of hard work and determination.

7. Do you have any advice for those wishing to become a make-up artist?
Get as much experience as possible, which will mean working for free. Be greatful of this experience as you never know where it might lead or who you'll meet which could lead to future work. Most importantly be easy going and nice to everyone. No one needs a moan on a long shoot or a Bride does not want to be made uncomfortable on her big day. A lot of make-up artists will be self-employed, this is hard work and there is a lot of competition out there, but if you are dedicated it is so great to be able to say you are doing a job you love.

8. If you had 5 minutes to get ready what Faces products would you apply?
  • Sheer Glow all over
  • Faces waterproof black eyeliner inside my rims and smudged underneath my eyes
  • Metaliglow on my cheeks to give me a glow

9. Any plans to open anywhere else in Ireland?
Currently I am very busy with the distribution end of things, supplying to colleges, students, make-up artists, etc...but as we are a franchise business we are currently speaking to perspective franchisee's around the country.

10. Any special offers at the moment?
Our pigment pots are amazing value at the moment:
5 - €25, 6 - €30, 8 - €35, you choose the colours
A palette of 5 eyeshadows is on offer at €48
If you buy any foundation or powder, we give you  a concealer worth €15 FREE

Our palettes and kits are always amazing value and if you are interested please contact me directly at facescosmeticsirl@gmail.com  for further information.

That Perfect Red Pout!

Another huge trend of the season is "The Red Statement Lip". Even Kate Moss is rocking the look for her new collaboration with Rimmel.

Many women shy away from this colour as they feel that it doesn't suit them or that it is too high maintenance. Lipstick on your teeth ladies is so NOT a good look. It can also be hard to choose which type of red to go for??? Blue Red, Orange Red, Brown Red........???????

Here are some tips from Makeup World:
1. Fair skin - Choose a Blue or Pinkish Red
2. Olive/Yellow/Tanned - Golden, Coral or Orange Red works well
3. Dark skin - Deep red

It is a good idea to try lipsticks at a make-up counter and ask a make-up artist to choose your perfect red.

Some tips for Application:
  1. Apply a lip treatment to your lips - Not Vaseline as this can actually make your lips worth. Something with Shea Butter is much better. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is amazing!
  2. Apply foundation over the lip area
  3. Fill in the whole lip area with your lip pencil
  4. Apply your lipstick with a lip brush
  5. Blot your lips
  6. Powder with loose powder and a powder brush
  7. Re-apply your lip colour

Brow Beautiful!

Ah yes the Full Brow is officially back thanks to Proenza Schouler and Dior. It wasn't that long ago that brows were bleached and sun kissed.

“There’s so much power in the brows,” says makeup artist Pat McGrath, who was responsible for Prada’s bushy brows and Dior’s deliberately overarched shapes.Quite reminiscent of Brooke Shields in her hey day.

Makeup World says - An eyebrow trend is not something that you should follow unless you are a catwalk model. Not everybody has a full brow to start with and it is important to work with your own natural shape. HD Brows are very popular now and follow a 7 step method from waxing to threading to create the perfect brow. With only two salons in salon performing the HD Brow treatment we are sure that they will be inundated with requests for the perfect brow.

Exclusive Interview with Jane Swarbrigg from Inglot Cosmetics Ireland

1. Why do you think Inglot has become so popular so quickly in Ireland?
Inglot was introduced to the Irish Market 2 years ago in the middle of the recession, the excellent quality of our products and the reasonable prices were quickly recognized. All Inglot staff are fully qualified makeup artists who have a passion for the brand - customers can trust them to give honest advice.
Also we don’t discontinue many products or have seasonal products like other cosmetic brands, so customers favourite products are always on the shelves!

 2.    What is your favourite Inglot product?
Oh this is a hard one, but I'd have to say our Freedom System Collection - you can customize your own palettes and mix and match products and colours, designing the perfect palette to suit your needs. Palettes vary in size and you can use eyes, lips, concealers, blush and powder products.
We have over 15,000 colours and shades to chose from. Prices start at 15 euro so you can build up your own personal collection bit by bit.

    3.    Inglot products are of a very high quality and are very popular with make-up artists, how can you sell them so cheaply?
It was our intention from the start to keep prices as affordable as possible. MUA's are the people using the products on others and we recognize how important their custom is. If the experts love the products they are better than any advertising campaign or celebrity endorsement. We owe a lot to all those Inglot addicts out there spreading the word for us.

  4.    If you had 5 minutes to get ready what Inglot products would you use?
For my face begin with Under Make Up Base €20, YSM foundation €16, YSM Pressed Powder €16 and finish up by contouring with Multi Colour Highlighter 83 €20 and a touch of blush €14. On my eyes, Gel Liner 77 €14 and a lick of Volume and Waterproof Mascara €10 and define my brows with brow powder or wax.
Lastly a slick of Lip Gloss Sleeks #92 €12 on my lips. That will give me a nice polished look and the Under Make up Base will ensure my make up lasts all day.

 5.    What advice would you give to make-up artists starting out in the industry?
Practice, practice, practice - the more practice you get the more confident you become and your clients will feel at ease and put their trust in you.
Always use top quality products and invest in a set of good quality brushes, these are your tools of the trade and in the long run they will last much longer than cheap, poor quality brushes.

 6.    What is your best selling product?
Gel Liner No.77, this matte true black gel eyeliner is waterproof, has amazing staying power and the color doesn’t fade. Its best applied with a thin Eyeliner Brush and comes off really easily with our oil based Waterproof Make Up Remover. Its just €14 and a pot will last you months.

 7.    If you could have any celebrity to represent the Inglot brand, who would it be and why?
Una Healy (The Saturdays)- shes gorgeous, successful and talented but still seems so down to earth and fun loving.
Una always looks effortlessly stylish and her make up is always flawless...and of course she’s Irish!

8.    What is your Beauty Regime like?
I like the natural look but also love getting dolled up and go for dramatic eyes and lashes if we're doing a themed event in store or on a night out.
I religiously cleanse, tone and moisturize at night and am addicted to our Under Make Up Base, which I apply daily before my make up. Inglot's primer has a luxurious, velvety texture that feels amazing on the skin. It ensures foundation doesn’t clog my pores, preventing any oily spots, it also mattifies the skin allowing a smooth make-up application and long lasting coverage.

  9.    What are your favorite eyelashes from Inglot?
Number 19S individuals €10 or if I really want to vamp it up strip lashes Number 17S also €10.

 10.    Any Insider news from Inglot that you can reveal exclusively to Make-up World?
Inglot No.4 is in the pipeline.....A beautiful flagship store. We'll be announcing the location very soon :)

Thank you Jane!
