Dior has created "Velvet Eyes", a revolutionary, "ready-to-apply", velvet eye adhesive eyeliner patch

Dior has created ready to apply velvet eye patch adhesives. Is this the new "era of make-up", disposable eyeliner? It does sound like a fabulous idea and we at Make-up World will certainly give them a try. We love the sound of the eye patch with Swarovski crystals!

Available at the Vogue Fashion Night, Brown Thomas 8th September.

■ Two pairs of matte, black, Effet Velours patches provide either a full and expressive line or slightly curved line for a graphic look.

■ One pair of Effet Brilliant patches, thanks to black Swarovski micro-crystals which decorate the line.

■ Finally, the last pair plays the Effet Haute Couture card, with three Swarovski crystals subtly positioned at the corner of each eye.

We cetainly cannot wait to try them!

Interview with Debbie McQuillan, Top Make-up Artist, Principal & Director of Vanity X Make-up Academy, Dublin.

1. What made you decide to set up your own make-up Academy?
From an early age I always wanted to own my own business, it was in my blood. At the beginning it was meant to be a Beauty Salon! But it was always from a business point of view. I decided if i wanted to open a Salon I needed to know first hand what type of service my staff should offer and what clients expected so i enrolled in a Beauty Therapy course with the prestigious Coogin Bergin. It was here I got the taste for studying again and decided to do a make up course initially as a hobbie as I loved everything to do with make up, and was always doing up my pals for nights out. I was a glutten for punishment, working full-time and attending two part-time courses!! But i loved it, it was tough but worth it! After this I set up hobbie make up classes just teaching girls and women of all ages how to apply make up correctly. I realised here iIloved helping/teaching people and sharing my talent. After finishing college and being quite shy i found it extremely difficult to enter into the make up world. I spoke to a lot of girls who felt the same, many had completed courses (course that cost thousands of pounds) but never did anything with their new found talents, all of them agreeing it was mainly due to the lack of support from their esteemed colleges. I wanted to change that, so i did! VanityX Make Up Academy was born

2. What are your most popular courses?
Our most popular course at the moment is our Part-Time Make Up Artistry Diploma, however our Full Time Ultimate Pro Course commences 27th of September and is slowly taking over!

3. What do you think are the most important characteristcs for a make-up artist to have?
Obviously you need the skill, but its important to be confident and un afraid. It takes alot of hard work to be apart of this “Industry” and always remember there is room for everyone after all creatively we are all very different!

4. Is it a tough Industry to break into?
It can be but hard work and personality can get you along way.

5. What are you top 5 favourite products?
For personal use my make up is quite simple and you’d be shocked to see how little i have in my make up bag! My favourite mascara is Bad Gal Lash from Benefit, I love my MAC eyebrow pencil in colour stud – definition you get is amazing!. I love FACES Cosmetics sheer glow (its water proof and has an spf) its great on its own or on top of foundation. My favourite foundation is Armani. Oh my secret weapon for my Brides is Bobbi Brown Creme Pot in Cylpso Coral its unbelievable!

6. Do you have a favourite Brand?
Honestly... not really i like a little bit from each brand, my TOP brands would be FACES Cosmetics, MAC, Inglot and Armani. Essence also have some great products and are cheap which is always a bonus.

7. What advice would you give to someone who is interested in a career in Make-up?
Research the college your going to invest your money in, ask to sit in on a class and make sure its the right environment for you. Make sure they tick all the boxes and can offer you with the support you need to progress into the area you desire.

8. If you were on a Desert Island what would be your top 3 "can't live without" make-up products? Mascara, Lip Balm and Blusher

9. Do you think Irish girls wear too much make-up?
I think girls in general are under the illusion the more the better – its a security blanket.

10. What do you offer students that is different to other make-up colleges out there?
Continued support during and after your course, employment opportunities, real work experience and great value for money.

Thank you Debbie!

Interview of the week with Anne Morgan, Director of Absolute the Agency!

1. What is your skin care regime like?
It has improved a lot! I used to be very lazy but I've started taken much better care of my skin now. I cleanse with Clarins One Step Cleanser with orange extract and use Rosewater as a toner. I only use products with natural oils because they work best on my skin. I moisturise every other day

2. What are your Top 3 favourite make-up products?
I swear by Dior's blackout mascara I've never found anything else comparable. I also love Armani foundation and I'm a huge fan of Illamasqua products, particularly their lipglosses - the colours are so vibrant and strong!

3. Do you think that Irish girls wear too much make-up?
How do I answer this without sounding hypocritical?! Yes, I think we do. I think everyone wears makeup for different reasons. I wear a lot but not for anyone else, for myself because I love experimenting with makeup and trying out new ranges and colours. But a lot of girls rely on it for the wrong reasons. Makeup should not look like a mask a girl hides behind it should be used to emphasize a persons strongest features. Irish girls have beautiful porcelain skin though so they shouldn't rely on it too much.

4. Do you have any advice for young girls who dream of being a top model?
Modelling isn't a hobby. If you perue modelling because you want a glamorous lifestyle you are going down the wrong path. Of course it can be fun but modelling is like any job, its hard, hard work. You face a lot of criticism so you need to be able to find a way to deal with this constructively and make it work for you not against you. Finding the perfect model  isn't easy for any model agent but if you can prove that you are reliable, professional and willing to work hard you will find far more doors will open for you. Of course a good agency will make all the difference to fulfilling your dreams so always do your research. Find an agency that will appreciate your look and work with it rather than constantly trying to change it and make you something you are not. And work out what kind of model you want to be (catwalk / editorial / promotional) and find an agency specifically known for excelling in this area. Reputation is crucial.

5. If you had 5 minutes to get ready what make-up products would you use?
Mac studio fix for my foundation, Dior Blackout Mascara on my eyes and Clarins Instant Light lipgloss.

6. Are there any Celeb's whose make-up look you like?
Right now I love Mila Kunis. Her look is amazing and her makeup is always flawless.

7. Do you spend a lot of money on make-up?
I used to but I have definitely relaxed! Now I would rather invest in skincare products although I genuinely believe you should spend money on a good foundation if you plan on wearing it everyday. But no makeup will look worth the money you spend on it if your skin isn't in good condition so start with that first.

8. Are there any budget make-up products that you would recommend?
I used to spend a fortune on Mac eyeshadows. Nowadays you really don't have to. I love Barry M eyeshadows, they are inexpesnive, have amazing pigment and the little pots last for months! Rimmel are also great for eyeliner, either pencil or liquid. And I SWEAR by Rimmel's loose powder. I have used all kinds of expensive brands and I always come back to this!

9. Do you wear False Eyelashes and if so which ones do you like?
I'm actually very lucky that I have long eyelashes so the only time I ever wore them was when I was doing a photoshoot or on the odd night out. I actually used to love the Girls Aloud eyelashes! I use a heated eyelash curler and my Dior mascara when I go out now and no one notices the difference.

10. Do you advise your models on how much make-up to wear to jobs?
Well because Absolute the Agency focuses more on the fashion side of the industry like shows and photoshoots rather than presscalls our models are usually lucky enough to have a makeup artist on hand to do all the hard work! If on occasion the girls do have to do their own makeup they are told to keep it as simple as possible. When meeting clients for example,  I prefer them to wear tinted moisturiser if they need a base, one coat of mascara and a very natural coloured lipgloss. I want my girls to embrace what they have. Models are expected to look natural and have good skin - clients need to see them as a blank canvas so I generally don't think you should make their job harder by sending a girl in with a face full of makeup. What you see is what you get with our models and that really serves them well.

Make-up World are delighted to announce that their 1st Competition is coming very soon thanks to Faces Cosmetics. Amazing prize to be won. We will keep you posted!

Interview with top Celeb Geraldine O'Callaghan!

1. Do you have a favourite foundation?
I can't live without Estee Lauder Double wear foundation.

2. What make-up products can you not live without?

Blusher as I think it gives instant youth to the face - too much can make you look harsh tho!
Also I love mac mascara, black of course. Lashings help me feel both feminine and awake!

3. What is your Beauty Routine like?

My beauty routine is always very quick as Im a busy girl. I like to experiment with different trends and colours and am not afraid to wear bright colour lipsticks or eyeshadows - although it must be one or the other. I use a waterbased moisturiser as I've oily skin, so for me its always important to use a mattifying powder regualrly through the day and night.

Thank You Geraldine!

Coming very soon....................................

Interview with top make-up artist MIchelle Anderson!

Number: 0879668595
Email: michelleanderson80@gmail.com
Facebook Search: Michelle Anderson Makeup

1. What is the 1 make-up product you couldn't live without?

I love Lancome Juicy tubes lipgloss, specially during the summer over Rimmel's hot pink lippy in 004 Indulgence, I just had to squeeze in the sneaky second product ;)

2. What is your Beauty routine?I cleanse and moisturise twice a day with a face mask and exfoliator three times a week, I love a rich moisturiser so I use Olay Complete Defense Daily UV Moisturizer SPF 30,  It's fantastic  and a great base for make-up, I then use Elizabeth Arden 8hour cream on my lips just after I moisturise. Warm water with lemon and lime in the morning is a great way to lightly detox and start the day also.

3. What do you think of cheaper brands such as Essence and Catrice?

I'm not one bit snobbish about these brands, I think they are hip, funky and fresh... I love their limited edition products and their stands always catch my eye. I have been using Essence brow pencil in brown for over a year now and I just love it as I like my eyebrows to be very sharp and shaped, this pencil is the perfect texture to achieve my desired  result and at €2.99 its a steal! I find Catrice eyeshadow has much better pigmentation than Essence and I have a couple of them in my kit which I am very happy with.

4. Where did you study?

I studied in Cavan institute of further education with ITEC for two years along with Fashion Management, Hairstyling and Fine Art.

5. Did you always want to me a make-up artist?

No, I always had a passion for art and fashion in school and as I was undecided what I wanted to do once I reached my leaving cert I applied for a beautician course as my aunt was a beautician and I always fancied the idea of it more than anything at the time, However my love of Fashion and Art shone through on the day of my interview and I was referred to a makeup course.. I haven't looked back since.

6. Any advice for budding make-up artists?

Its tough and by no means glamorous. You really have to put in the work to attract and keep clients, Maintain several portfolio's and always stay current. Always say yes to every job and throw yourself into the deep end no matter how much it may scare you, there have been many times when I had just finished my studies where I got so nervous I just wanted to run away from the job but I embraced the nerves and stuck at it! And most importantly never follow the crowd, let your work describe who are are not only as a makeup artist but as your own individual self, It's so much more rewarding.

7. If you had 5 minutes to get ready what make-up products would you use?

Living on the go, this has often happened me and here's my quick fix list in order off application;

M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish natural powder all over the face,
Clinique light gold eyeshadow all over the lid up to the brow bone and under the bottom lash line with two colour shades darker on the crease and outer corner of the eye.
Lancaster natural powder illuminator on upper cheek bones and nose
Clinique in fresh bloom under the cheek bones
Smashbox Blush rush on the apples of the cheeks
M.A.C golden bronzer used to define my jawline and temples and blend my cheekbone colours together.
Clear mascara on eyebrows and lashings of Maxfactor MasterpieceMax mascara on my lashes.
Too finish, Rimmel 004 hot pink lippy on my lips and grab the closest Juicy tube lipgloss before I miss the train!!

Thank you Michelle.
